Welcome to the web site for the Portsmouth branch of Hung Leng Kuen Kung Fu / traditional Wu Shu.

The class is taught by Sifu Darren Holmes (4th Duan) Instructor. Martial artists of all levels are welcome from absolute beginners to advanced grades in other styles.


Hung Leng Kuen (Free Spirit Fist) Kung Fu / Wu Shu is based at Admiral Lord Nelson School, Dundas Lane, Portsmouth, PO3 5XT every Monday and Wednesday, 7.30pm – 9pm.

Self Defence

Hung Leng Kuen Kung Fu / Wu Shu is a traditional martial art, made relevant for today's society. Suitable for young and old, women and men, it teaches practical, no-nonsense self-defence, the traditional animal-based forms and weaponry and builds confidence, ability, strength, flexibility, stamina, health and well-being.
Martial Arts
As Hung Leng Kuen is a modern style, beginners may be more familiar with comparable styles such as wing chun (short range martial art, especially suitable for women), Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do (another modern fighting system with many similarities to Hung Leng Kuen), Shaolin Long Fist and Choy Gar (long range fighting arts), Chinese boxing and Muay Thai. Hung Leng Kuen Kung Fu is influenced by Fu Jow Pai, Tai Chi Chuan, Preying Mantis, Pak Mae (White Eyebrow), Choy Lee Fut, Pak Qua / Ba Gwa Chang as well as many other modern fighting systems.
